Tällberg Forum

July 31st, 2005 at 14:25 Björn Hallberg

Ever heard of Tällberg Forum? Neither had I.

Between July 30 and August 3, 2005, 450 leaders from all over the world will come together in the small, beautiful village of Tällberg in Sweden. They will break out of their ordinary roles to spend a few days exploring a question of growing concern - “How on Earth Can We Live Together?”

Most of us spend our daily lives in our various parts of the whole. We promote and defend legitimate duties and causes defined by the special interests as represented by states, agencies, businesses, NGOs, churches, etc. The Tällberg Forum 2005 offers a rare opportunity to spend a few days beyond our institutional duties in conversations on the future of the whole rather than its parts. The focus of our conversations will center on the design of frameworks for sustainable global interdependence.

The destiny of humanity is - as the evolution of history hands it down to us - to live together; even if this was not our vision, desire or choice.

This year’s speakers include, among others, Kofi Annan, Margot Wallström, Hans Blix, Mary Robinson, and Mikheil Saakashvili. Also present are the king and queen, Shashi Tharoor, Jan Eliasson, Bei Dao, Tomas Tranströmer, Manuel Castells, Anthony Burgmans, Russel Deyo and Prince El Hassan bin Talal.
