US plans for covert propaganda

While this sort of mind game has been going on for years, it seems that it is now being prioritized.
USA Today - Pentagon rolls out stealth PR - A $300 million Pentagon psychological warfare operation includes plans for placing pro-American messages in foreign media outlets without disclosing the U.S. government as the source, one of the military officials in charge of the program says.
Run by psychological warfare experts at the U.S. Special Operations Command, the media campaign is being designed to counter terrorist ideology and sway foreign audiences to support American policies. The military wants to fight the information war against al-Qaeda through newspapers, websites, radio, television and “novelty items” such as T-shirts and bumper stickers.
The program will operate throughout the world, including in allied nations and in countries where the United States is not involved in armed conflict.
But the overt messages and “novelty items” are obviously just what people are meant to see in order not to make too many inquiries about were all the money is going. In reality, the US is engineering a friendly network of propaganda outlets that will preach the doctrine of Empire. The next time you see a pro-US message in the mainstream media or in so called alternative culture, be wary, it could very well be payed for and directed by the Pentagon. It’s not the bumper stickers that I’m worried about. They’re just the cover-up.
And I don’t have to venture far to substantiate my worst fears either. I have my doubts about certain news outlets that have cropped up in Sweden in the last couple of years. You know who you are. And I’m watching you.
