Lessons of the Roman Empire for America Today

Voltaire Network scoops up a revealing document issued by the Heritage Foundation on the topic of empire. Perhaps unwittingly, the Foundation draws upon lessons from the Roman Empire and misses out on the irony of the implicit admission of guilt.
Voltaire Network - The superpower without complex - From now on, the American empire assumes itself [...]

Hugo Chavez slandered by Holocaust lobby

And in a fairly bold way too. The hate campaign being directed by the notorious Wiesenthal Centre and other Israeli interest groups aims to isolate Venezuela like they have Iran and gain some bonus credits with the US by impeding human rights and fair trade in the region.
Voltaire Network - An organization for the defence [...]

US Territorial Expansion Maps

Empire? Global Policy Forum has been busy scanning vintage maps of the United States. The expansion is quite amazing. A bit like watching a nuclear explosion annihilate and corrupt everything in its path.

US Policy of Abuse Undermines Rights Worldwide

But then again, that was part of the plan. The world’s only empire and self-proclaimed policeman needs things to clean up.
Human Rights Watch - U.S. partners such as Britain and Canada compounded the lack of human rights leadership by trying to undermine critical international protections. Britain sought to send suspects to governments likely to [...]

Iraqi Trade Unions reject structural adjustment programs

The meddling by the IMF and the World Bank doesn’t seem to be very popular. Here is a list of suggested changes in the current US-controlled globalization of the economy …

Kuwait oil reserves only half official estimate

Kuwait is small fish in the scheme of things obviously with “only” 10% of the world total (or so they claim). But overall, statistics are murky and OPEC in particular have not been forthcoming with its total reserves. It is very likely that numbers across the board have been fudged.
Reuters - OPEC producer Kuwait’s oil [...]

3,000-4,000 Iraqis killed every month

Appalling!
AFP - Between 3,000 and 4,000 Iraqis are killed every month, rendering “ridiculous” US President George W. Bush’s estimate of about 30,000 civilian casualties since the start of the War, veteran British journalist Robert Fisk said Wednesday. The figures were compiled during several recent trips to the country occupied since March 2003 by US-led forces.
The [...]

Warfare, the road to globalization

While clearly isolationist, and coming from a fairly bigoted web site, even blind chickens find a kernel of corn every now and again.
Deanna Spingola - Warfare, the road to globalization (Part 4) - “If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.” James Madison.

America’s Superpower Days Are Over

One can only hope that the pessimists are right for once.
Paul Craig Roberts - Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard University budget expert Linda Bilmes have calculated the cost to Americans of Bush’s Iraq war to be between one and two trillion dollars. This figure is 5 to 10 times higher than the $200 [...]

Colophon

It has been a long year. The author is currently biding his time. Lets just say the journal is on a prolonged and much needed vacation. In the meantime you can be sure that I’m watching you all. I guess that at some point I will get so angry that I will in fact have to write something.
