‘Road to Guantanamo’ actors almost got the grand tour

Craig Murray revealed already last week that the British actors of the upcoming Road to Guantanamo were apprehended when returning to the UK from a film festival abroad. Interestingly enough, their run-in with the new tyrannic anti-terror legislation was far from the quick brush it could have been. In fact as it turns out, at least one of the actors was harassed, verbally abused and discouraged from participating in further political films as well as pressed on his view of the Iraq war.
In a statement, Rizwan Ahmed said police swore at him and asked if he had become an actor to further the Islamic cause. He said he was at first denied access to a lawyer and was questioned about his views on the Iraq war by a policewoman. “She asked me whether I intended to do more documentary films, specifically more political ones like The Road to Guantánamo. She asked ‘Did you become an actor mainly to do films like this, to publicise the struggles of Muslims?’”
Hey, look, it’s the Muslim world conspiracy everyone! Because obviously, not only did Muslim actors portray Muslim ex-detainees, the detainees must have planned to get themselves tortured at Guantanamo and elsewhere just to make the U.S. look bad. Because as we have heard time and again from the America’s flimsiest, most slippery and worst habitual liars like Donald Rumsfeld and Scott McClellan, the detainees are trained by Al Qaeda to “make false claims about being tortured.” Cue to Daily Show quip …
