Prisoners still tortured in Iraq, 14,000 held without trial

And America learned nothing from the Abu Ghraib scandal obviously. Or perhaps they don’t care at all. This is sending a pretty powerful message too, as I’ve pointed out before, in that it reminds the world what happens to those that defy the empire. Like prisoners in ancient Rome being dragged before a jeering amphitheatre they serve as both entertainment for the increasingly decadent and sick masses as well as a stark reminder of the consequences of not knowing one’s place.
Perhaps it is as simple as old-fashioned colonial racism, a disrespect for foreign culture combined with an endemically sadistic military being encouraged through the chain of command to bring their villainy upon the defenseless and the subjugated. Furthermore, it goes a long way towards increasing anguish and frustration, tearing Iraq apart, making sure that the region will stay divided and servile in the foreseeable future.
It could of course also be as simple and unconspiratorial as both countries, the U.S. and the puppet Iraqi government of warlords, being run by complete and utter cretins who either don’t know any better or just lack basic humanity. Welcome to the new world order, and catch the boomerang coming your way.
