Seymour Hersh on the coming Iran War
April 9th, 2006 at 11:22 Björn Hallberg
In what has now become front page news all over the world (except in the U.S. I wager), Seymour Hersh argues that a plan to attack Iran is already in motion. Whether Hersh is unwittingly perpetuating empty U.S. threats is uncertain but a number of interesting facts did come to light. Some have been outlined by Hersh and others in the past but are nevertheless worth recapitulating.
First it would seem that the flea-bitten gimp in the Black House is very concerned about his legacy and is growing more desperate every day. Of course, in reality the legacy could be the effective end of America abroad instead of “saving Iran” but no matter. Hersh repeats the fact that the U.S. has been covertly operating inside of Iran for some time. Ninety-nine per cent of the targets for the terror air strikes have nothing whatsoever to do with proliferation or nuclear weapons. Most also recognize the irony in that only by wielding nuclear weapons can Iran truly avoid the talons of the U.S. empire, and Iran must surely understand this as well. As such, America’s threats and containment are having the same effect as they’ve always had, they are cementing the situation, making America’s outrageous goals unattainable.
Needless to say, the evidence against Iran is also made up or largely exaggerated. From fairytale laptops to the testimony of A. Q. Khan. Perhaps the most interesting allegation yet is the idea that the political cadres of the U.S. empire is ready to use tactical nuclear weapons, such as the B61-11 (concerns raised) over the vocal objections of even its own military. Mostly so because the political wing has the same nickelodeon understanding of nuclear weapons as do the pundits that defecate on various web sites.
Elsewhere, we also learned that it is in fact the U.S. which is torpedoing diplomacy. The popular image that the U.S. media has been selling us is that it is the Iranians who are too rigid and stalwart. Another public lie. Imagine that.
Everyone else has already pointed out what madness this is, should the basic thrust of the Hersh argument turn out to be accurate, so I will not. A part of me wishes it was true and that part would gladly gamble with Iranian lives to deal a crippling blow to America, both in terms of blood and public relations. Anything that makes America less liked is doing me a big favour, up to a critical mass where one wont even have to educate people and argue about complicated matters and can just fall back on blind hatred. A day where every American and every American business outside the U.S. borders are targets. Sweet possibilities indeed. Having looked at history and having read all the right books, one quickly realizes that America has been molesting the world with impunity for the last two centuries. Learned men and women have done their best to raise awareness but to no avail. What else remains then but to trust irrationality, when reason failed?
