Darfur, the safe cause

May 2nd, 2006 at 16:53 Björn Hallberg

Angry Arab is right on: “[...] rich white kids have found a safe cause in Darfur.” While the high profile involvement is a blight for sure, the most dire problem is that the conflict has been simplified and moralized. Especially since the usual cliches have already been cast and the U.S. has had Sudan on its phoney terrorist list since the mid 90s. Don’t count on a fair hearing, even IF people can be persuaded to act.

It is also interesting to compare the reception one Hollywood celebrity got for stating the obvious, while another was shunned for speaking the not so politically correct and moving against the tide.
