America’s China Hypocrisy

May 26th, 2006 at 21:31 Björn Hallberg

When will the U.S. stop deflecting criticism by pointing to China? And will the not so veiled meddling make China and Russia any more likely to go along with U.S. middle-east policy for instance? Hardly. But please, go ahead and keep making enemies.
- Pentagon warns over China buildup
- China strongly protests US label of ‘credible threat’
A quick look at the number of foreign interventions for the two countries should determine who is the most credible threat to the world. Not to mention the America’s unparalleled ability (compared to China) to manufacture high-tech parts, total nuclear arsenal, bellicose statements or absolute defense spending.

In their own way though, and without giving the public the entire picture, the Pentagon is absolutely right. The U.S. is unwittingly revealing its own hand and strategy in this latest deal in the game of geopolitics. No one in his right mind would pay any attention to China developing its military at home while selectively ignoring American trespasses far from its own shores. Yet here we are, blinded by the hegemony.
So, the Pentagon is correct by definition. Only, what is bad for America is good for the rest of us. China is a thorn in the side to the U.S. Both in terms of economics, natural resources, cultural influence and a small but versatile military force that will change the balance of power in the region. It is ironic that China, which is most often cited for human rights abuses and infringements on basic liberties, is now a prospective torchbearer for world liberation.

It should also be noted that all of this is untimely considering the serious baiting of Russia that went on a few weeks back. The bottom line is that if one doesn’t want Russia or China meddling in U.S. matters, the U.S. should stay out of theirs. Sound advise for Americans who wonder why the rest of the world watch their every step and complain endlessly about their policies.

It has been a long year. The author is currently biding his time. Lets just say the journal is on a prolonged and much needed vacation. In the meantime you can be sure that I’m watching you all. I guess that at some point I will get so angry that I will in fact have to write something.
