Ban Ki-Moon new secretary-general

October 14th, 2006 at 06:58 Björn Hallberg

South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon will become the eighth U.N. secretary-general on January 1st. Best case scenario is that he is exactly the vegetable that he seems. Worst case scenario is that the U.S. has some sort of hold over him, seeing as the American influence over South Korea is still substantial. Even worse, the hold could very well be part religious, moonie or not, in addition to mere ideological inclinations. But things are really not all that complicated and they don’t need to be. The fact that the U.S. strongly supports Ban Ki-Moon is all I need to know.

  3. A fine argumentation! What stunning articulation. Bravo!

Jealousy? Sure. I mean, who wouldn’t be envious of the slaughter of millions, the economic rape of the world, the destruction of the environment and its natural resources, the breakdown of civil liberties, the manipulation of foreign nations, covert experiments on the American public, racism, civil religion, false flag terrorism, militarism or any number of ailments?

  5. Björn Hallberg seems to live in an upside down universe.

“the slaughter of millions” - sure…if you add up the dead of all of the wars we’ve had.

“the economic rape of the world” - made up fantasy.

“the destruction of the environment and its natural resources” - another made up fantasy. We’re actually protectors of the environment. Not 100%, mind you, but all in all.

“the breakdown of civil liberties” - if you believe in left-wing fairy tales.

“the manipulation of foreign nations” - oh no! We’re just like everybody else here!

“covert experiments on the American public” - the government has done this in the past just like every other single government has done.

“racism” - we’re not living in a racist culture. To say otherwise is ignorant.

“civil religion” - I don’t even know what that means.

“false flag terrorism” - says you and every other America hater.

“militarism” - considering that we provide a good portion of the world’s security, no shit.

“any number of ailments” - that’s pretty vague.

    You’re jealous and envious.

  7. I’d really like to engage further in this enlightening exchange of wisdom but the intellectual capacity of the rabble who torture themselves by visiting this journal — spouting their imaginations and expect to be taken seriously — is frankly not up to par. I fear that raising the level to actual arguments instead of mutual ad hominem would simply not elicit a productive conversation. In fact, the vast majority of Americans — thanks to decades of brainwashing and a decrepit educational system in general — are incapable of a stimulating discourse surrounding their own role in the world and as such it would be as productive as talking to fish all day. I do however find the general tactic of blaming the victims of the world and shifting the focus by labelling everyone who don’t agree and have a fresh outside perspective on America “terrorists”, “jealous” and similar nonsense, slightly entertaining.

Plus, I believe “jealous” and “envious” are actually synonymous. Don’t use two synonyms in what is technically a four letter sentence. It makes you look … desperate.

While America is by no means innocent, these guys are kind of right. You’re a little bent. Practically obsessed. The others here are just trying to defend they’re country, and unfortunately their arguments are slightly inadequate. Here’s my attempt to give justification to their arguments.

    Slaughter of millions
Like likwidshoe said, only if you add up a majority of the wars we’ve fought in. Many of them - the ones in which we’ve experienced or inflicted the most fatalities - have been very important wars that I’m sure our presence in them benefits you greatly… unless you’re a fan of Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

The Economic Rape of the World
Rape? A quick Google search shows me that America is the largest exporter in the world. I don’t think that’s rape - I think that’s just manipulation. Rape is a bit extreme of a word in this case, don’t you think?

The Destruction of the Environment and its Natural Resources
    True.

    The Breakdown of Civil Liberties
    Debatable.

    The Manipulation of Foreign Nations
Debatable as well, but every country does this. There’s nothing you can say that will prove America is the most manipulative nation on the planet. Yes, you can provide links to articles and all the other crap you do on this website, but that’s simply because America’s flaws are openly advertised, far more than any other nation. Biased media and whatnot. My point is, though, any nation in a similar situation will do the same, if not worse.

Covert Experiments on the American Public
Same as what I just said - any nation in a similar situation will do the same, if not worse.

    Racism
Right. Every nation has its racism, sure, but America is so politically god-damned correct that it’s a taboo to be racist in any way, shape, or form.

Anyway, case in point, America is by no means the worst nation on this planet. Take a look at the points you’ve listed and compare them to… say, Iraq during the Saddam era. Fundamentalist Islam nations. African nations, Russia, China, North Korea… they’re all deserve equal if not more attention to their flaws as what you’re giving to America. However, as I said, it’s just popular to beat up on America since the nation’s flaws are so public, so … I guess you’re just being trendy.

  11. No, you’re right, my bad, both the Soviet Union and China has killed more people. Kudos to America for only being number three in the last century, finishing well ahead of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. And that is still a generous tally since one could argue that America’s meddling resulted not only in the rise of Hitler but also in the increased paranoia of China and Russia. Nevertheless, quite a crowd to be socializing with, wouldn’t you say?

It has been a long year. The author is currently biding his time. Lets just say the journal is on a prolonged and much needed vacation. In the meantime you can be sure that I’m watching you all. I guess that at some point I will get so angry that I will in fact have to write something.
